During my trip to Siem Reap I planed to visit one of the floating villages. There are several different floating villages one can visit and through various operators. Like in may in many tourist areas the quality of the tours might vary and there will be the obligatory tourist traps. After doing quite a bit of research I found Community First (TripIt). Besides being most likely the best floating village tour in Siem Reap, this tour was also one of the most affordable tours.

This tour was truely a highligh of my trip to Cambodia. Our tour guide grew up the floating village we visited and taught us a lot about the local culture and people. On the way to the village we stopped a few times to checkout various local food and treats. The cost of the food was included in the tour price. Unlike the more touristy tours the stops were no traps to make you buy stuff.

The village was exremely coloufull and the peope were friendly. Because I visited the village during dry season you could see how the buildings are build on long posts. The first stop in the village was the school building (see picture below). The profits of the tours are going towards the school.

After seeing a bit more of the village we drove in a boot towards the lake to enjoy the sunset. On the way there we stopped at some random fisherman who showed use how we controlls the traps and his catch of the day.
